Florida Pradaxa Attorney

If you or a loved one has been harmed by the drug Pradaxa, you may be entitled to compensation. Pradaxa is a prescription blood thinner prescribed in an attempt to prevent blood clotting. It is primarily prescribed to those who have a heart rhythm disorder called atrial fibrillation. Patients with atrial fibrillation have an increased risk of forming blood clots near the heart, which can travel through the body causing strokes. Serious side effects reported by Pradaxa users include:

  • Cerebral hemorrhaging
  • Internal bleeding
  • Ulcers
  • Strokes
  • Unusual bruising
  • Lethargy
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nosebleeds
  • Coughing up blood
  • Pink or brown urine
  • Red or black stools
  • Bleeding gums
  • Weakness or swelling in the extremities
  • Joint pain or swelling

The Elderly are the most at risk of suffering a severe bleeding episode because they are more prone to balance problems. Many fatal bleeding injuries associated with the use of Pradaxa are triggered by falls, even those occurring at ground level. Additionally, patients with impaired kidney function are also highly at risk because Pradaxa is filtered through the kidneys, which creates a greater risk of suffering severe bleeds. In too many instances, the kidneys cannot effectively clear the drug from the patient’s bloodstream, and the drug builds up to dangerously high levels, increasing the bleeding risk. Should the patient start to bleed, it may become difficult or impossible to stop due to the drug’s lack of an antidote. The only way to remove the drug from the patient’s system is to perform dialysis.

The manufacturer of Pradaxa, Boehringer Ingelhei, is facing lawsuits alleging that they failed to properly warn patients and doctors that no antidote exists to reverse the blood thinning effects of the drug, and that this irreversibility makes it difficult, if not impossible, to stop excessive or severe bleeding in Pradaxa patients. Since FDA approval, Boehringer Ingelheim has acknowledged approximately 260 deaths related to the use of Pradaxa.

Pradaxa users and their loved ones are now filing claims against the drug maker to recover compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses and other losses. The experienced Florida Pradaxa attorneys at The Trial Professionals have represented numerous victims of dangerous drugs against pharmaceutical giants over the years, and are prepared to begin helping you today.
